For non believers repentance seems silly. It's like they take pride and enjoyment in sin. I know this first hand because I've lived it... It's painful to admit that you've been wrong. It's much easier to stubbornly plant your feet and embrace your favorite sin and justify it against every mention of it's harm. What unbelievers will never know, at their own detriment, is the great joy that true repentance brings. It's not an act of guilt and shame unless it's only done halfway. Rather, it's a sense of freedom and holiness, at true gift from God. Do yourself a favor. Examine yourself for unGodliness and make steps in the right direction. If you're like I was and so set in your ways that you don't even know that you're wrong, ask the Lord and let him show you where you're going wrong. He will reveal it to you if you let Him.

I don't like being preached to, but I'm glad you've found your way. Being a lost sheep isn't any way to live.

Great advice Okie. It is the greatest feeling when you come to know that God is real in your heart. There is a point when you are young that you believe because you are told that you must believe. So often people are not good explaining how we know God is real when you are a kid. I remember when I asked my Mom if Santa Claus was real because she had told me so many years that he did exist. I got pretty upset about it when I felt she was the person I could always trust. Surely she had not told me something that was untrue. She admitted that he was not real, and it really scared me. I was devastated because I did believe. At that point, I had decided that they were making up Jesus as well. So often as a child, you see more of Santa Claus in stores, and we sing about him at Christmas. They really go way out of their way to make children believe something that is not real. It took me many years to overcome that, but I did. When I realized he was real, I knew that He knew I would come to know him later on in life. I am so glad that I know for sure now. It has changed my life.

Really appreciate your post Okie AND sometimes we have to be reminded that without repentance there can be no forgiveness. As a Catholic we (I) go to confession periodically and it is a wonderful feeling afterward when I stop to realize I have exposed my most innermost faults and failures and God has forgiven me.
