As most of y’all know the boss and I are stepping back a bit, and Jacob is taking the reins of our operation. We are blessed that we have someone to step in and continue the genetics we have invested so many years developing. He is planning an open house bull sale on January 4th. The way he described it to me is we have a base price on each bull and pen them based on the price. No bulls will be sold prior to January 4th so all of our customers have an opportunity to view all bulls we have available with exception of the ones we’re using. I think it is a neat idea we plan to provide a meal and I plan to visit! If any of my chat friends have the time consider this as your invitation to join us for this first annual event. Jacob says he doesn’t expect to sell all the bulls on the 4th but wants to give this a shot. Have any of you folks ever attended a sale like this if so pros cons.

What's on the menu? I assume your going to be able to bid above the base price on the bulls?

I have attended a few sales like your talking about. I like that you can take your time looking at the bulls and you know up front what the base price is.

We have an open house every spring. Next year will be 12 years I think. I make sure the coffee is hot, the doughnuts are fresh, the barn is clean and the bulls are in tip top form. I invite all past customers and promote on social media to draw a few new ones in each year. My lease books open for the entire year on that date and it is first come first serve. If you are late, you may not get the bull you wanted. I have a base price on all of them at this point also, but only end up selling one or two at the open house, since it's really not our focus. Most of our guests that day will spend well over an hour checking out the stock and shooting the breeze. It is a low key event and no one is pressured or hurried along. Sometimes people who have no intention of leasing or buying show up just to visit and that is more than fine with me. It sounds to me like you have a great event planned and I wish I was closer so I could come!!!

We would love for y’all to come, he k you know I love talking cattle! I am trying to decide on menu, it’s a bull sale so I think you have to serve beef. But we’re on the Gulf Coast and I happen to make pretty Decent gumbo. One thing for sure you won’t go home hungry!
