No dogs for me at the moment as both of ours are dead. The Shih Tzu got ran over and the English bulldog out lived her predicted years. Not sure we'll get another.

I have one..just, a dog that wandered up here hungry and abused a couple years ago. Good for nothing except following me anywhere I go on this place and keeping me company, and I guess that's all anyone could ask of one..

After years of owning packs of cattle dogs I'm down to a pit mix that was dumped on me and a basset hound. The pit mix is probably one of the best dogs I've ever owned. He's great with people, gentle, smart, kills anything that comes in the yard but leaves stock along including chickens. He's even housebroken if I want to let him in. My soon to be step grandson walks around hanging onto his ear and he just wags harder. The basset hound was bought by my ex as a puppy and left here when she left despite me telling her not to forget her dog. My yard is gopher free and my good free dog has a buddy when I'm not around but that's really about where his good qualities stop.

This ol'mutt isn't the brightest dog, but she follows orders, and likes to ride.

I recently had to put down the best dog I ever had and he was definitely the best Christmas gift I ever received. He was 13.5 years old and had Laryngeal Paralysis (Lar Par). Still trying to find my "new normal" and our other dog, a Lab/Greyhound mix that was dumped on the ranch as a puppy, is a mess without his BFF. There is nothing like the unconditional love of a dog!

We have two. A Border Collie that is the smartest dog I have ever been around. She was a real deal cow dog in her day. But she is 12 now and has a bum wheel from a mauling a couple years ago. She is past going on the big circles and she can get weak hearted on cows. But calves in a corral she is still good. So we decided we better get a new one to start. This new Border Collie pup is a monster. She is smart as a whip. She aggravates the heck out of the old dog who barely tolerates the pup. The old dog goes everywhere with me so the wife is taking over the pup.
This is Bear our old dog. I said she is surveying her territory. The wife says she is counting the cows. If she is counting I wish she would share the number with me.
This is Bear and Rufus. Bear has a great "down" and "stay" so it is easy to get her picture. Rufus not so much..... we will have to work on that.

Dogs, what would we do without them? I just can't see myself without a dog. I find myself worrying about when I get older, will I still have one knowing that if something happens to me and my husband, what would happen to the dog. Abbey my Jack Russell is 6 years old and Mike my Catahoula is 3. They are a big part of my life.

I had a similar dog as Okie. Lab/pitt mix I think. Never a more loyal dog and one that loved kids. Went everywhere with me. Worthless around cows but all of them knew she was harmless. Died on me about three months ago at about age 11.
Trying out a little yellow dog I got out of the pound. She has potential but so far no name other than dumb a$$. Not sure what she is but looks like a black mouth cur. She was a return dog that seems to have been a inside dog but she learning fast to live in the the great outdoors even if it is 101 degrees. Work in progress.

Every dog we've ever had were "throw aways" by someone else. A few years back we ended up with a pup that we couldn't find the owner, so we took it to the vet to get checked out. Vet said she was part Chow, part Shar pei, about 5-6 months old. This dog went everywhere with me, was very obedient, and one of the the best attributes was she would set at a gate and not let anything through. Saved me getting on and off a tractor many times.
One day, setting in the truck, I was just resting not feeling too energetic. Soon Ali was being a nuisance putting her head under my arm, wining continuously. I opened the door to let her out but she wouldn't go. This happened a few other times, and one day I realized she recognized my blood sugar was low because I had just tested it when she began her routine. From that day on I became more aware of her responses.
What is really amazing is to train a service dog can often cost $20,000. To this day it still amazes me how she was so aware.
