I have known a couple of people that had Schizophrenia, and it was the most cruel disease to have. There are no medications that will stop the voices of fear that they hear. They were afraid to talk about it because they felt they were marked by the public as being "crazy."
I know often I have thoughts circle in my mind that I want to get rid of, but I have never heard voices. Are the voices they hear only thoughts they have? My Grandson works with a man that has this disease and he hears voices all the time. He seems to be doing OK, but I know that he suffers greatly. My Grandson asked him the other day, "Do you believe that God has angels"? He said, "If God has angels, then the devil has demons."
Both of the two men that I knew that had it, believed in God, but the mental disease would not leave them alone. Both have died. One from the health care workers that when he was in the hospitals did not pay attention to what his ailments were. He became septic and died shortly there after. In my mind I felt proud for him to have gone to Heaven as his life is new there. He no longer suffers from this. He lived in constant fear.
The other young man had a very strong belief in God, and knew the Bible well. But he still could not shake what the disease brought to his life. He always felt that God would never forgive him for his sins, and the disease ate away at him. He walked out the back door one day and he died in the driveway of another home. We are not sure what happened to him. They found no drugs in his system, but figured he had a asthma attack.
I truly feel God knows how much these people suffer as the brain is as diseased as any other part of of body. You can remove a diseased gall bladder or get a liver transplant. So many different diseases can be treated. But when it is your brain, you cannot remove it. There are only drugs that can treat it, and it takes years to find the right combination that eases their pain. Then often a medication has been used for so long, no longer works.
I do feel that God knows these people are diseased, and their thinking is not normal. I can't help to want to believe that these people are held harmless because of their illness. They often feel so much guilt for anything and everything they have done. Often their disease causes them to make some bad decisions. Then they do not forgive themselves for sins they committed when they were young. Many people take their own lives to escape the voices and evil thoughts that continue to circle.
To die and go to Heaven is the only relief where they can be normal. It makes my heart hurt for people that suffer from this. I am sorry for the people that truly do hear voices and harm other people.
How does anyone else feel about people that suffer from this disease? Do you feel that God accepts them as badly diseased, and forgives them if they do believe in him and ask for forgiveness? I do believe that he does.

I’ve been told by a person who’s son suffers... that for many of them, drug use is a form of self medicating. They turn to street drugs because it’s the only way to escape the chaos. I’ve seen a bright young headstrong boy turn into a dysfunctional human being in a matter of a couple years. Mental development to make good choices stopped progressing about the tine he turned 12.

I can understand how they seek self medication to get away from the hell they live in their minds. No matter how much you talk to them, later on their thoughts or voices over-ride what you have said. I am sure that doctors have to be very careful when they medicate them as they could save all of their pills to take at once to end their life.
Depression is a hard disease to live with, and I see many that suffer from this. But I just can't imagine having Schizophrenia.

Tough subject no doubt, I won't even pretend to know the answer. It would be my line of thinking that, the illnesses and effects of those illnesses on individuals are known of by God. It is my belief or at least my hope that if the illness has afflicted some one since birth, childhood or what ever the point of accountability is that God would take care of them. It's also my understanding that if anyone confesses that they are a sinner, and believes that Jesus Christ is the son of God, and accepts him as their Lord and Savior, then they will be forgiven and counted as one of His. From a Biblical standpoint, there are several references to demons being cast out of people by Christ or his disciples. Some people today believe that some of those scenarios could be explained as mental illness. I personally believe that the way the Bible describes the demons being cast out, that it truly is demon possession in terms of Biblical times. I am basing that on the scriptures that reference the demons speaking, or in one instance being forbade to speak by Jesus. It is my interpretation of the scriptures that Jesus was sympathetic to those afflicted by illness and demons that he encountered or that sought him. This is a subject that I honestly don't know if it is one and the same scenario as mental illnesses today, but I do believe that the same evil is affecting the world today.

In the native population especially, in our area, the use of methamphetamines has gotten really bad. Even Mexican cartels have come up here to kill a dealer that owes them. I understand that the brain likely never recovers even if a person is able to stop using. A different scenario than schizophrenia, I realize, but what a tragedy that someone makes that one, first, mistake that dictates the rest of their life. The court dockets, obits and the suicides tell the story.

We are in an area, where drugs of all kinds are rampant. It is my observation, that drug use definitely affects the brain. Often see folks in some pretty sad situations that it's usually safe to assume because of drugs or alcohol.

I agree with you Franklinridgefarms. People born with depression and other mental diseases have trouble putting one foot in front of the other. Those that don't self medicate to escape their problems often try to sleep to escape them. Often people will see someone who suffers great mental illnesses, have trouble putting one foot in front of the other. Many times these people as seen as very lazy, but they cannot see what is around them because they are so overwhelmed with their thoughts. Anytime someone seems to be suffering, and has come to me, I try to listen and help them as much as I can. Hoping that just one thing I say might help them to work things out. Such a horrible thing to live with. I do believe that God understands the mental illness that people suffer from. And if they ask for forgiveness, He forgives them for the mistakes they made that had a lot to do with their illness.

Tough subject My brother in law is a paranoid schizo diagnosed at early childhood. He does good on meds, but its hard to tell what hes can or cant do becaise my mother in law babies him so badly. Hes 50 My wifes cousins kid is 19. He was normal until he started smoking pot. Then he went nuts and now has a schizo diagnosis as well. Was it the pot, something else or timing? I dont know. My mother in law also swore my wifes dad was schizo. And his mother, my wife grandmother were. He wasnt. I dont think she was either. In fact, it seems that the schizo gene runs on my wifes side of the family if anything. Theres so many aspects to schizo its crazy. No pun intented. I believe that the mentally ill get a pass to heaven. Like Down’s syndrome and such. The ones that are pure evil, psychopaths etc..get a pass too. Straight to hell. Im glad im not in the judges seat.

A very dear friend I've known 40 years is Bipolar to the extreme she is on disability. After being committed she is diligent about taking her meds, seeing not only her Psychologist but also her Primary Care and goes to the YMCA every day because the exercise does help her feel better and manage. She also has an autistic daughter, which clearly compounds her mental state. She knows when she's going to spiral up or down and has learned the warning signs, takes appropriate action. She does also have a strong faith, even signing in the church choir.
Seeing what she's been through, I can't imagine the torture of schizophrenia.

I know of a couple where the wife was extreme Bi-polar, and the husband was schizophrenic. The father of the wife was Bi-polar as well. And the family of the husband suffered from schizophrenia as well. They had planned on having a child which scared me badly. How could the child be normal??
They had two, and the first child was Autistic. The second son seems to be normal at the point, but is around 3 years old, so there could be a lot of underlying issues. How could they have a child knowing how hard life was for both of them?
Mental genetic problems do pass on to the children. I realize that the government is not in control of these problems. I don't trust the government and I don't trust 95% of the doctors. But there has to be some point that these people should not have children. Imagine the hell those kids live through with the parents that cannot care for themselves, much less the anxieties that are created by caring for very young children. I can see these parents locking a kid in a room when they cry not knowing the reason why or much worse.
I don't know what the answer is or how it could be corrected. People with these kind of diseases just don't need to have kids.
