We just got back from Yellowstone and that part of the world. We went there in late September figuring the crowds would be thinned out and the weather still good. We were wrong on both points. Ton of people especially Japanese and people from other parts of the world. And it snowed. The snow level was just barely above Old Faithful so we had a cold drizzle there. The pass between Old Faithful and Yellowstone Lake had 4 inches of snow. Our plan was to go out the Northeast entrance over Bear Tooth pass to the cabin we stayed at. Bear Tooth had 8 inches of show. We had to take the long way around through Cody. I have been to the park and number of times but my wife never had been there. She enjoyed the trip and that is what is important. And we did see Yogi the Bear, but he didn't steal our picnic basket. It was a large mature grizzly boar. He was about 500 yards off which is close enough to a grizzly. Binoculars worked just great.

Wife and I drove through May a year ago. Drove in from Jackson Hole and left through Cody. Weather was cool and still had some snow and ice around. Drove through some drizzling rain but the weather was nice at Old Faithful. Stopped at Buffalo Bill Dam. Pretty country and the nicest gentlemen shuttling visitors from the parking area to the visitors center. 😂 wife was a bit surprised how the restroom facilities worked.

If you went through Cody I hope you stopped at the Buffalo Bill museum. We spent the better part of a day there. It is at least the fourth time I have been in it and I am not sure I have seen it all yet. We spent 2 days in the park, a day going over to the Little Bighorn Battlefield, and that day in Cody. One day driving each way. It was a fun adventure. Lots of people at Yellowstone and Little Bighorn but we drove a lot of back roads and saw lots of off the beaten path stuff too.

Didn’t get to the museum. Have had numerous people tell us we should have gone to see it. We hit Cody late afternoon and was an overnight stay on the way to Deadwood, SD. We did a whirlwind tour. A lot of driving and not a whole lot oh time to spend at any one place. Just to much country to see in a few days.
