156 counties here under burn ban...down from 175 one week ago. My county just dropped out of burn banishment yesterday, after the 19" rain last week.

Our area of Va has been in the extremely dry category until about a week ago, then went into moderate drought. Much too warm and dry for this area at this time of year. Had a chance for a pop up shower on Thursday. I was raking sorghum-sudan and it got cloudy and we got about 20 drops. They got a short quick downpour 5 miles south. passed on and cleared off again. Finished raking both fields, 20+ acres and my son got it baled Friday afternoon/eve.
Today (Sat) it started out warm and sunny, but you could feel some humidity. About 2 pm, heard some thunder, went out got the clothes off the line, ran to shut the truck windows and it poured down with a couple good close cracks of thunder. Sat there in truck for about 20 min then it passed over and was done. Sun came back out and we had nearly .5 inch. REAL WELCOME. It won't eliminate the dry but will really help. A few more chances off and on the next couple of days. Problem is they are always so hit and miss, but any will be welcome. It has been so warm for this time of year here. Maybe have a cool down the end of next week.
GB seems to either be in drought or swimming in flood waters.... 19 inches sure will change the status in a hurry. Problem is that it comes too fast and all runs off as it drowns everything.
