Last night we caught up the group and sorted off the calves. With the plan to hold them over night in a pen and haul them in the morning, I wanted to make sure they drank plenty. The cows were able to be close to their calves, so there wasnt a bunch of running weight off doing laps. Awhile back someone I know mentioned putting kool aid in the trough. So I filled one with water only, and added a large can of the kool aid mix to the other. Total cost 12 bucks. This morning, the kool aid trough was drank down at a ration of 10 to one of the regular water. They barely touched the regular water at all, while the kool aid trough was almost empty.
Something to think of

Good tip. It's usually very hard to get them to drink, thus loose weight

I think I might be tempted to use a can or big pack of Gatorade but it does have a lot of salt in it.. $8 here

This is a trick people who show cattle or horses use frequently. Cherry flavor Kool aid works wonders at cutting chlorine flavor/smell. We always use Gatorade, blue crush. It keeps them drinking no matter where you take them and the electrolytes are an added bonus.
