Today was opening day of deer season here. I went into Little Sinker Canyon which has a reputation for big bucks. I didn't see anything. Part of the reason may have been I spent so much time looking at my feet. That piece of real estate is steep. And where it isn't steep it is because it is vertical. This afternoon sitting in the recliner while nursing my tired legs a little forkhorn buck spent about an hour slowly feeding his way up the driveway. He turned in behind my stock trail and cut through the corral. I didn't shoot him. I will spend a few more days looking for his grandpa.

Day #2. i headed north. The ground is a lot easier. Certainly not flat but not scary steep. Saw 30+ deer including 4 little bucks I passed up. Nice crisp fall morning. A great day for a hike/deer hunt. Along with the deer I found an old mine shaft. About 10 feet in diameter and 15 feet deep in solid rock. Some old timers worked mighty hard 150+ years ago. My guess is they didn't find what they were looking for.

Dave should head back with a pick , shovel and hammer/ chisel.

It would probably take an hour to hike up to the site with out carrying all that stuff. You would also need a ladder. I am not about to climb into that hole without a way out. They found lots of gold around here in the 1860's and 70's. Long enough ago that there are no sines of any activity other than that hole in the ground.
I did see a quartz seam in the side wall near the top. Maybe this is the lost Dutchman mine!!! You guys better flock up here to find your fortune.
