We are still dry but saying some rain tonight and into tomorrow. Latest I just saw is only .25 to .50 inch though. Not enough to make a big difference, but still better than none. It is getting too late to help the pastures for this year. I am like bulltrader, after last years nearly double of normal average rainfall, then this years extremely hot summer temps lasting all through Sept, with much less rain, can't say that I will complain about rain very much. Still we are lucky, as we are stocked a little light and still have some grass to rotate to. Going to put some tubs out for some of the cattle to utilize the dry grass though. Better than bringing them home and feeding hay.

Looks like it's a 50/50 chance a tropical depression will form and move across the desert Southeast soon.... weather.com/storms/hurricane/news/2019-10-16-gulf-of-mexico-tropical-development-possible-central-american-gyreAt a Glance A broad area of low pressure is currently over southeastern Mexico and the Bay of Campeche. This so-called Central American gyre may spawn a tropical depression or storm in the Gulf of Mexico. This possible Gulf system is forecast to move toward the northern Gulf Coast this weekend. Heavy rainfall is possible in parts of the Southeast plagued by a recent flash drought. This system may also produce some surge flooding along and to the east of its track. Central American gyres have spawned notable Gulf tropical cyclones in recent years. A tropical depression or storm may form in the Gulf of Mexico over the next day or so and bring soaking rain, winds and coastal flooding to parts of the Southeast this weekend.
Right now, there's a broad area of low pressure centered over parts of southeastern Mexico and Central America that extends into the Bay of Campeche and the adjacent Eastern Pacific

Finally getting some much needed good rain! I fear it may be to late to help pastures. It has already been cold with a few light frosts and is supposed to continue to be cold thru the next few weeks. Hay is non existent here, I made 40% of what I made last year. Putting the cull list together knowing the market is in the tank and basically giving them away. Wether you do it for hire or on your own cowboying just don’t pay much.
So so I sit here enjoying listening to the rain Today the pleasure, tomorrow the pain Knowing I will do what I gotta do Somehow lord we will make it thru It would be easy to be rich But all of this I would miss What little I have I wouldn’t sell to you Watching cows graze across the morning dew Wether it be many or just a few If any of this makes sense to you I think you might be a cowboy too

I feel the same way. One place the pasture is gone, and I dont think theres enough time left to build it up. I have twice as many cows as I planned for because of a new deal with the land owner and the markets. Ill end up bringing more to the house where we have plenty of grass for a bit, and I bought about 3 times the hay I had planned on buying. raise cattle, itll be fun they said. I still enjoy it though
