I drew a cow only elk tag. It is good on the south side of the road in front of my place. Unfortunately elk are rarely on my place. But neighbor B just down the road says I can shoot an elk in his alfalfa field on the south side of the road. So my big elk hunting adventure is to take off just before daylight, drive to the field, and check for elk. If there are no elk I drive home and eat breakfast. So after 5 days of no elk, they were there yesterday. About 200 of them. I counted 14 branch antler bull. Two of those were whoopers. It is pretty open so I had trouble getting close. That and they stayed bunched up so I couldn't get a shot at and single cow. I wasn't going to shoot into the herd. They went off on to another landowners property. I don't think neighbor D would care if I shot a cow but I don't have permission so I passed. They like the alfalfa so they will be back. Maybe this morning..... Looking at the clock I need to get going in 5 or 10 minutes.

Today was the first day for those with bull elk tags. I was on the south side of the road where my tag is good. Watched the elk on the north side. First they ran to the left. Then they ran to the right. They never came my way. Watched two bulls get shot from well over half a mile away. Neighbor B's son got a dandy 8 by 6. A buddy of his got a small 6 point. And his 80 year old uncle who is about half blind got a 3 by 4 bull with an open sighted 30-06.
