Yes for me I would have swelling of my lips and face either when I woke up or just random times during the day. The odd part is it does not generally happen instantly when you eat usually 8-16 hrs after. Most allergies are instant and this can get to that level if you keep eating mammal meat. I have a good friend that has it and went into full on anaphylactic shock.
I can eat meat just has to be fish or poultry. I HATE chicken!! Eat it because I have to but god it is awful.

That sucks smokinm, I hope you can become desensitized to meat again someday soon. My original statement isnt that it doesn't happen, but quantifying the number of cases. So far of the cases that posts here, smokinm is a population of 1 that's spoken up. To that point, statistical analysis is about what I'd expect, possibly another because everyone here based on raising cattle have potential for exposure. When someone says I know x number of people with a disorder, disease, condition...etc. That includes the sum total of all people they know that have that disorder. Contrast that with the population of the people you work with. What percentage of the people you know in sum total is the people you work with? We have how many people here posting from south east us? How many have this disorder? What I was saying is population wise, I think the promotional statement of the fake meat is a BS statement. Not that there are no cases of this disorder. And maybe I'm very wrong in suspecting that. But sometimes people have motives. 75 you need to take a layer or two of tinfoil off your hat bud. I like a conspiracy theory as much as the next guy but this isn’t lab created. It has been around for a long time but they didn’t know what it was or how to test for it until a few years ago. It has also been found in Australia and a few other countries as well if I remember correctly. Chuckle it doesn’t affect them because they have alpha gal in their body already. It is in all mammals except primates, that’s why we can develop an allergy, we don’t have it in our body. I hope they either find a cure or it isn’t permanent too. I would pass up a million dollars to go back to eating cheeseburgers and bbq ribs again. I got a whole field full of cows and cant eat them it SUCKS! I don't fully understand Alpha-gal. Why, does the tick's injecting one with the galactose-alpha-1,3-galactose carbohydrate cause a delayed allergic reaction in humans, but us eating non-primate meat all our lives almost always does not? Does it simply not enter our bloodstream in the digestive process? But, if that is true, how do our body's antibodies know we've ingested the red meat and thus attack the carbohydrate and cause the reaction?

I don’t understand it all either Greybeard. The bad thing is I don’t think the doctors do either yet. Something about the saliva has an affect on it if IIRC.

I appreciate the information you are giving us smokinm. I asked my doctor the other day if he had seen many cases of it here in West TN, and he said no. So that is a good thing.
Guess that would mean no ham in the peas or beans; no bacon grease either.

When I eat a lot of meat (which is a subjective amount!) I get bad cramps in my feet and legs during the night. I was in my 20's and remember reading in Prevention magazine about possible causes of cramps. Gave it a try and made a quick difference. Still eat meat, just less.

Something that is interesting enough to look into. I know the intestinal tract is selective in what it absorbes. And it's said that large proteins won't absorb well after a few days of age. But then you have absorption of hormones (birth control, thyroid supplement, etc) which are not small proteins... and some well absorbed and others not. You can't take oral testosterone but you can use cream on your skin. That's interesting to me. I suspect without looking that the answer is which proteins are stable in the acidic environment of the stomach and which get denatured. But maybe it's receptors. If that's the case, weird how the skin absorbs it. With the alpha gal, injection through the skin and into the body with other components might be what sets off the reaction. Like an adjuvant in a vaccine, the body reacts more than normal. I really kind of wonder if this isn't the answer. Like autoimmune disease,the antigen (in this case, cells of their own body) has been present for the person's whole life. And only after an immune response is initiated by say a bee sting or vaccine etc... the immune system over reacts and starts recognizing itself as foreign and starts attacking itself. But that's just a plausible guess.

The serum anticoagulant the tick uses to keep blood from clotting maybe? I realize most of the on-line explanations are simplified for understanding's sake, but it does seem as they are leaving something out. Why is it tick specific? And I would suspect just from what reading I've done, that it's only or predominantly caused by tick bites and not mosquitoes as well. I don't have any doubt, that in spring and summer, I've been bitten by skeeters that a few minutes or seconds earlier were happily slurping blood from one of my cows.

What may or may not surprise you is the number of patents held on various infectious agents. I'd think with the current Corona virus situation, it wouldn't be a big jump to realize other infectious agents have been created in and out of the bioterrorism labs and studied.
