Bear with me while I try to explain this...it's just strange..
1. You ever see a kids cartoon on TV where a set of false teeth are out on the ground just biting and flopping along on the ground? Like this:

Keep that image in mind....
About a month ago, I noticed this 6-7 year old cow with a membrane hanging out her back end and figured she had had a calf. When I went toward her, she took off into the woods on 24 acres I have leased adjacent to my property. I looked all over next day or 2 and never did find a calf and figured coyotes got it or she had aborted for some reason. She's acted normal ever since, eating hay with the rest of them.
My son and I came back to the house today after being gone an hour and I noticed one of my cows laying down in an odd place..kinda muddy there, and she was the only one in that pasture. Son and his wife were going to drive to the pond and fish a little & dropped me at the back door, I went inside to tell wife we were back, and then I rode out on the 4wheeler to check on the cow. Rode around her..She was laying down, a little on her right side, front legs folded under like they do and it was muddy there, but not so much it wouldn't support her weight. She kept slinging her head back toward her left shoulder tho..a lot. She didn't pay me and the 4 wheeler any mind. I looked at her rear end, and didn't see anything unusual at all. Went on over tp where my son and his wife were and commented I didn't know if she was trying to calve or what and talked to them a couple minutes. I told my son he would probably have better luck with bass further up the fence where I knew there was some deep water and he walked on up the fence and was casting into the pond about 150-200 ft from the cow. Wife stayed siting on the truck tailgate.
I rode back over to the cow, parked about a dozen feet from her right side, turned the 4wheeler off and started walking toward her, and suddenly, she jumps up, sees me, and runs right at me, and I mean RUNS. I yell at her but she kept coming, pushed me backwards over the Honda's seat, then abruptly turns, trots off and spies my son who has been watching the whole thing. He heads for the corner posts where 2 fences meet so he can get over the fence easier and yells for his wife to get up in the truck..she does. I had noticed when she got up and came at me, that her whole head was quivering...not shivering, just shaking..it was about 70 deg and full sun today.
The cow turns away from my boy (he's in his late 30s) and starts thru the open gate. Suddenly stops, goes over to the latch side, and starts mouthing the post and where the gate latches. Her mouth doing just like the cartoon false teeth. Still stopping to sling her head back every once in awhile but otherwise just stood there mouthing that crosstie post and latch. Drove over to her, and she paid me no mind, but I could tell something isn't right with her. She kept that up for about 30-40 minutes. She wasn't leaning or pushing on the post, just mouthing it.
Decide I better try to pen her, rode up to the shop and got a bucket of cubes and stopped the 4wheeler about 100 ft from her and got off and started walking toward her with the bucket and she sees me and just hauls butt out thru the gateway and into the other pasture where the rest of the cows are standing. Went to eating hay but something is different..the rest of the cows are all pushing and shoving her around and they never did before..like they know something's wrong with her.
Couldn't get her to come into the pen and it was getting dark so I don't know what the deal is with her but that mouth is still going a mile a minute and still slinging her head back. Thoughts?
