Anyone grow it? The growers here are in big financial trouble. All the expenses and they can't sell it now. Nobody wants it.

No, but a neighbor did. Apparently the seed company have him the wrong seed and his was hot.
Couldn't cut it. I don't know what happened on that deal.
Why can't Texans sell it?

Most of the growers here bought cloned plants. $4-$5 each. They are quoting expenses at around $12,000 an acre. We're supposed to sell it for $40-60,000 an acre. Now nothing.

Market flooded or companies go under?
I thought there were contracts here... but that's just what I heard 3rd or 4th hand.

The most recent chinchilla, emu, jogging in a jug, buffalo or any other fad that busted folks in the past. Here there is weeping and gnashing of teeth by the folks who have been the chosen few. $1/seed. no info on herbicides, low market, high labor, ...And once they get started large companies will take over and put all out of business. Not to mention that the market is already saturated with CBD oil and it is sold in any and every store and flea market.
We need to stay with the profitable beef production!

I have a friend that looked into growing hemp for fiber pretty seriously. They were talking a huge number of acres putting it up in round bales and hauling to a central location for processing. The people doing the contracting had zero infrastructure in place and were clueless about what it would take to transport and store the volume they were proposing.
The marijuana market has crashed here also with so many people getting into it or becoming legit.

I planted some summer before last for a customer as test plots funded by VSU I think. I know it was a state funded deal. My guess is and most of what I have heard is that there just isn’t processing in this area for it.

It was supposed to be a big deal around here, I knew several that had grown it for a couple of years, and U.K. Agriculture Dept was or is big into researching the production of it. There was a place here in the county that from what I understand was a seed supplier and possibly into the processing of it too. I don’t know any details about it but they filed for bankruptcy a few weeks ago.

It's a valid natural product with an almost endless amount of uses but it has to be processed and integrated into the actual production chain. Growing the raw priduct is easy finding markets for it is the difficult part.

Infrastructure never developed. Lower fuel prices did not do it any favor.

I wonder if there's any feed value to it. Bamboo was supposed to be the next big thing there for a bit. I even had a company call me wanting to plant my place in exchange for the first years crop. But, there's zero infrastructure for handling bamboo. Just because it's a great idea doesn't mean it's going to work.
