Was looking at that a while back to maybe treat bulls for lice, but didn't get one. If you get one tell us how it works. The flies here are getting bad.

The flies are getting worse here as well. One thing that I noticed last year when I fed the IGR mineral. that the flies would gather around where the mud holes were. The cattle make a mud hole under the trees along the fence line. There are two separate holes they lay in to stay cool and to coat their bodies with mud to help fend the flies off. So the IGR did not work as well as I thought it would. Then where there is any grain slung around the troughs, the flies are there as well. It seems the nasty creatures can always find a way around what I use.
The price of the gun and the insecticide balls are expensive. So, I have to study on it for a bit, then get used to the fact that it is going to cost a lot of money to get the complete set. It is odd how they separate the entire gun so you have to buy each little piece. Seems they would make a good deal with the complete set up in the beginning, then you can buy the extras when you need them later on. I think they offer a complete set if I can locate it again. I will just have to go back and forth to see where I can get the best deal.

We've been getting mineral with garlic in it for fly control. I was skeptical and didn't think it was helping, but finally it seems like it is. Only an extra $34/T. Should have started feeding it earlier in the season, probably.

Now I will have to check the Co-op for garlic mineral. But I do feel sorry for the calves that drink garlic milk. My Mom told me when she was little, they could always tell in the spring when the wild onions came up because they could taste it in the milk. They had dairy cattle.

I’ve thought about the Vet Gun, but it looks to be an expensive product. I feed an IGR mineral, start out with it pretty early as Southern States sells a mix of it with hi mag for earlier then drop to a regular IGR a little later. A few weeks ago the flies got pretty bad and we put fly tags in, that seems to have helped. Since we held off till June this year with the tags we also wormed them with a generic pour on too when getting them in the chute.

I ordered the Vetgun and the insecticide. The Vetgun won't be in until the 9th, and the insecticide, they had in stock. So I will be able to tell you how it does here.

We have one I’m no longer allowed to use it. The ammo is not cheap and I am a horrible shot. I would shoot three or four times before finally hitting a bull. The boss or Jacob now use it primarily on bulls just because it’s makes like easier, they have no problem hitting them and it works. It keeps us from having to get the bulls up when all they need is fly treatment.

I still have not been able to use the Vet Gun. I purchased two refillable tanks, and not a single welding supply store says they can fill them. The individual tanks hold 14 oz each, and they are saying that they no longer have the scales to measure that small amount of gas.
None of the sporting stores that sell guns have the CO2 to fill the paintball guns either. What has happened to the paintball deal?
I asked the welders supply store if they could sell me the set up that would transfer from a 20 lb tank to the canister and they said no.
Anyone that has the Vet Gun, please tell me where and how you are getting your tanks refilled?

Years ago we used to get the CO2 cartridges filled at Scheels for the boys. There's got to be a solution for this. Sorry you're having difficulties.
