I'm thinking about doing some hotshot work and need to upgrade trucks to do so as I sold my one ton as a package deal with my cattle ground. I'm leaning heavily towards the cummins but I'm hearing some good stuff about the Fords lately. The 350 and 3500 are pretty evenly matched on GCWR. Anyone have any strong opinions either way?

Probably hard to go wrong either way. I don't ever want to drive another Ford though. The last company truck I had was a Ford and it was the most miserable riding truck I ever sat my ass in. I did 140 some odd thousand miles in 2.5 years in it. Won't happen no more. That being said, they may have changed on or 2 things in the last ten years.

Ram with the aisan transmission. Ive pulled up to 38k and while it grunted, it did the job. The new fords just dont have what it takes

My RAM 2500 has done everything I asked of it. Hard to beat that Cummins engine. But it ain’t the best riding thing by a long shot. In all honesty I think you will be fine either way with either one of the 6.7s

I am about a Ford like M5 is about a Ram. My wife always laughs when I tell people I looked in the window of a Ram one time, that was as close as I could bring myself to buying one. Both are good trucks, no arguing that Cummins motor and they finally have a trans that will stay with it. Still the only good thing anybody has to say about those trucks tho. All of them pull like a Mack nowadays. I think the Ford is better built all the way around.

I'm back to being on the fence today. A smooth ride is worth quite a bit for as much as I'd be driving it. My old one ton dodge was great but after hauling several loads in between here and California when we moved I'd be about half crippled for a few days. Another thing to consider, the local Ford dealership is top notch and very fair on price from what I hear. The Dodge dealership is only concerned about selling you a vehicle. I think they'd get clear away from service if they could. The few times I've dealt with them on either of my trucks it's been like pulling teeth to get anything fixed and twice the truck has had to go back in for the same issues.

Drive both. My 2016 ram is far better than the 2004 ford Also, search out what other hotshots are running.

The new Fords are a completely different animal than the old ones. Both trucks have a 6.7. Very similar in torque. Both have gcwr over 33,000lbs.

If you are gonna be in it a lot, and depending on how much you need, I would seriously consider upgrading to something with air ride and air ride seats. I can't stand to be in a pickup for very long at a time. Beats me to death. Stick an air ride seat in one at least.

I just hauled 32k lbs x 13.5' high 500+ miles and averaged just less than 10mpg at 60mph in my Ram 3500. Towing loaded at 70mph I get 7mpg, but empty it's legit 20mpg truck at 70mpg. We're pretty happy with our Ram trucks besides the 5 recalls.

Neither. Duramax. Very few treat one as bad as I do and they just don’t give any trouble. Ford couldn’t begin to hold up and the one dodge here couldn’t either.
