I meant to tell you that I purchased it from Coonhunterssupply. They seemed to have the best price like you said. I didn't realize that the Amish made these.

I actually have a couple of the liners and really like them also.

I like a good fleece in the layering, and if it buttons or zips, even better. If it's real bad, I'll throw thermals under that. I have a real light weight jacket that I don't know what it's made of. But it just doesn't breathe. I can't wear it most days, even pretty cold days. But if the wind gets up, over a fleece, it does the job of a real thick coat. I need to look what it's made of.

A hard cold wind is really difficult to ward off. For some reason, if wind touches your skin anywhere, it just seems to magnify it all over your body. I just have not had the right coat to stop it from passing through.
I love fleece as well. It feels so warm against your body. Even the fake fleece that comes in some of the Carhartt coats is really warm. I have one of those old Marlboro coats that my Step Dad use to own. It is a camel color sueded and is lined in real sheep skin. It is a pretty coat, but I have never worn it out in public. I wouldn't part with it, as it hangs in my closet.

bulltrader, My coat came in this afternoon. It had already turned dark, so I put it on and walked out to the mailbox wearing a short sleeved T-shirt and the Dan's Coat. Wow!! It was not heavy at all, and when they call it briarproof, they aren't kidding. No more hay chaff unless it gets in my pockets. No wind is going to cut through it either. My mailbox is a ways from the house and it was cold, and I did not in the least feel cold. As a matter of fact, I was beginning to warm up. When I pulled the coat off, I could feel how much warmth the coat was holding in. That is one heck of a coat.
I have a feeling that military liner might be a bit too much. But I am glad that I got in just in case. I am going to have to experiment with that. I think a thicker long sleeved shirt with the coat will work just fine.
I am going to have to recommend the coat as well bull trader. Mostly for those on open station tractors running back and forth to the hay field with rolls of hay and cutting the strings off. I get to try it out first thing in the morning as we have to go put out hay at the other farms first thing in the morning.
It is almost the same color as my work coat used to be.
Thank you for telling me about it. I am going to really enjoy it!!!

I'm glad you like it. Only thing I forgot to add was mine is in the long length. Works great on the tractor.

Did you get the hood? You can always order it later now that you like it

bulltrader, I did get the hood. Now I will look like Kenny on Southpark.
I noticed that Monday, the high will be 47* which is a good temp in the winter, but the winds will be in excess of 20 mph. So that will be a good test for the hood and the coat. That hood will do the job.

So after a week how are you liking the coat?

I really do like the coat. Funny, right after the coat came, our temps were in the 60's for quite a while. But today, the temp is 37* with a strong north wind and no sun. It looks like it is time to put it on and see how it does. It has to be cold to wear it. It can become an inferno if the sun is out and no wind. My tractor is an open station 3020, and it gets quite cold running up and down the road to get the hay bales. So, it will definitely be put to a lot of use as it gets colder, I will be able to tell you more as we get closer to the coldest part of the year.

Their bibs are pretty good for riding a tractor but mine aren't lined. I wear them over my normal warm weather clothes. Same material as the coat.

I have figured out how to wear the coat. When the wind is blowing and the temps are low, it is outstanding. It was so cold to me when I went outside earlier. As I started working around the barn, I could feel my body temperature begin to rise as it holds so much heat in When I feel that I am crossing the line from being comfortable to being warm, I unzip the coat, and the vest on that I have underneath it down to the lower part of the coat. It will let the heat out and your temperature will stabilize. When I am shoveling manure out of the barn, I get hot. So just adjust the amount of heat you need to stay warm by unzipping the coat half the way down or a bit more.
It worked like a charm this morning.
This coat is really long on me as it is a man's coat, and I am not so tall. So, it covers my torso well. So, it is a great length for me.

They are long and that's the good part in my opinion. I can't handle it when a coat rides up over my belt line and my back gets cold

I agree bull trader. Those short jackets are for a quick trip from the car to the inside of a store. Not good for someone who is exposed to the cold temperatures in the winter time. The coat is long enough on me that is is thigh length.
I really have a hard time getting bibs to fit well. But I could see where some insulated bibs would be great in extreme cold.
