When you are heading South, does that mean you are going home or picking up another trailer to deliver?

When you are heading South, does that mean you are going home or picking up another trailer to deliver? Dropped a trailer in Conyers GA and thought I was going to FL but that got changed. Got in late last night

I looked up Mantee, and is said in the 2000 census, the population was only 169 people. Sounds like a community I would like to live in. That is a lot of miles. If you are driving alone, you had to sleep some of those miles pulled into a rest stop leaning the seat back. I never thought I could just sleep anywhere until I started driving a truck. The truck I drove was a day cab and had two seats and a short table between the two. I am short, and I would let the air out until I had the table and seat level. Then I would lay down with my rear in the seat and my head and upper torso on the table. In the winter time, I would carry a throw that had fake lambs wool on one side and the other side was like a felt neoprene material. We were not allowed to idle our trucks and it would show up in the reports. So, I wrapped up good in that throw and stayed so warm. It made for some good sleeping. I usually got about 3 hours of sleep a night while the sort was going on.
Are you using their truck to make these deliveries or your own truck? I hope you are making hundreds and thousands of dollars.

Didn't sleep the first minute. Barely stopped to get gas. Their truck. Stopped today to see what was next. Left with the truck and a 20ft aluminum cattle trailer. Going on a short trip to Sonora KY in the morning. Only 440 miles round trip.

Truck had 549,228 miles on it today. Monday it and a different driver go to Mississippi again, then back here and then to South Dakota. Another trailer needs to go to Florida this week and pick up one in GA to go to Iowa. I doubt all of them get delivered by one old man.

It is amazing how many miles are put on those trucks. I remember we had some cab over Macks, that had over 1,000,000 miles on it. These trucks were five speed and no power steering. I remember getting in the 5 speed and trying to shift it. Ha-ha!! You know how when in a car or PU, you just shift it smoothly in one swoop. But in that 5 speed mack, matching up the RPMs with the transmission was so slow. It took a little time before I realized that the truck would shift in the same RPM each time. But it was a very slow shift. I remember trying to push or pull the gear shift forward in the pattern before it fell while accelerating. If you missed the spot, then you had to rev the motor up until you could hit the correct RPM's. Anyway...... just remembering the old days and shifting.
Oh something else I really liked about the non power steering, Ha-ha, was trying to back a trailer. You know how in the beginning you would over turn the wheel? It would wear you out until you learned to turn it as little as you could. Dang, my arms are aching just thinking about it.
Are you enjoying the work?

I remember trying to back a 4 wheel farm wagon with an old Ford tractor without power steering. I couldn't back one either way. I'm tired but I haven't had but 8 hours sleep since Wednesday. It was really nice where I delivered today 50 miles south of Louisville KY. Just off I-65.

You are driving a lot of hours with no sleep. You be really careful out there. Those wagons that have a turning axle in the front can make you really crazy. We have those gravity flow trailers that turn on the front end as well. I have a spot for those that you just pull through with and unhook.
After driving over 1000 miles, you should have a good case of jet lag!! That is such an odd feeling to be moving for so long and then to get out of the truck it makes you feel so spacey. The only way to relieve it is to get back in the truck and start moving again.
You keep this up and you will see little green men running across the road.

Pulling a trailer to SD this time of year in a 2wd pickup is not my idea of fun at all. That could be a rough trip. Be safe going to Ocala, like I said before lots of rich good looking horsewomen down there right now but doesn’t sound like you will be sightseeing.
