Weve been battling it here. First 1 cow at a time, now 2 cows and 1 calf. Hard to treat on pasture without facilities. I know I'm in new territory, but dang the flies are bad. I never had to treat for it in florida. i cant wait to get stocked here at the house so i can treat things right.

It's a pain for sure. You may already be doing this, but I use a dart gun if it isn't convenient to get them up. Flies were awful here early we are feeding IGR mineral, and fly tagged them too, seems to have helped for now anyways.

Im probably goimg to borrow the neighbors dart gun. We have back rubs out, after using the igr mineral. Neither help the 250 lb calves though that haven't started hitting the mineral

Do you vaccinate for pinkeye? At the risk of jinxing myself, can't remember the last time I had to treat for true pinkeye - as opposed to eye abrasions from stemmy bales. I use an autogenous vaccine that targets both Moxarella bovis and bovoculi.

These cows will only be mine until October, I bought them on opportunity, and the owner said they can stay on his land until then. But the pens are on the other side of his hay field. Otherwise id run them through. Hes got a dart gun if I need though

Pinkeye seems to have hit this part of Va with a vengence in the past 2 weeks too. Talk about it at the co-op and darts hard to find. Have treated/shot several in the past couple of days. Don't have facilities on several of the rented farms. Going to add altosid to the next batch of mineral, have always had good results just having DE (diatomaceous earth) in it but not this year. Could be from it having been so wet all last year and not much of a cold winter to kill off much. Who knows.

Got the calf darted. First dart blew its load mid air, second bounced, 3rd stuck. I think the darts may be out of date
