Dart gun is the way to go. Mine is a rifle that is similar to the old Benjamin pump up pellet guns. No problem hitting a calf in the neck from 30-40 yards. I just load the dart with whatever antibiotics I want to use.

Dart gun. One year we had a cow out, she was right beside the others but wouldn’t come to them. Just stayed by herself. Everyday though the went to a pile of rice bran at a deer stand. Someone set in the stand with the dart gun and tranquilized her.

Vince, I just saw this post. I’ve got a dart gun and I’d be glad to come help you. Also got a calf hook but the dart gun will probably work better.

We couldn't catch the calf again tonight won't let us get within 10' most times 20'. Hopefully the calf will be no where to be found tomorrow, it's stressed out, thirsty and I'm tired of dealing with it. The cows will be where we can deal with them Tuesday, we have to sell another load Wednesday. What kind of gun do you have? I'm thinking about getting one of those pump up Benjamin types, any pro and cons will be appreciated.

Not foolproof but it sure works good in situations where you can’t get one caught for whatever reason. As far as pros and cons I don’t have any experience with anything else.

My new one is the fudd pump one. Even at new prices, save one calf or get one calf past an infection and it pays for itself. Take a pinkeye calf to the sale barn and get 200 bucks. Or treat it easy like and get regular price. My .02

Mine is a Pneu. I am certain that it paid for itself the first year I owned it. Reliable and accurate. I have roped and tied down full grown cows by myself but I am not as young as I use to be. This is a whole lot easier on me and the cow.

I should have clarified. Mine uses CO2 to shoot the dart. And then a .22 blank in the dart to inject the meds upon impact. I think some use a .22 blank to shoot the dart as well which if I am understanding correctly is the way yours works.

How much medicine can you deliver with one of these pneumatic / .22 type guns? Only ones I've seen advertised were pretty low dosage.
