We have a calf with a navel infection and can't catch it to treat. We don't have a horse and it's apparent we can't rope a moving target anyway. I tried running the calf into a corner in the field and the calf just runs through the wire. It's looking like were going to have to move all the cows to the catch pen just to work one calf. We're all hat at TGF. My son says we need to buy a little cast net and just net the calf, has anyone tried this?

Panel up the corner. Feed the cow in there and calf might follow. If not, close her up and leave her. Line the fence down a piece with panels so you can catch calf when comes?

I have one of those calf catches too TC. I works pretty good. Haven't tried it on anything older than a couple of days though.

I'm close to being (if not THE) worst roper on the planet, but if I can get close enough to use a dang cast net, I can get a rope on it.

Sounds like you've been trying hard so maybe you've already tried. But if the cow will come to feed. Simply try to get her in the evening when the pairs mother up. But before the calf gets to nurse good. The goal being to get her to drag the calf along.
I also agree with greybeard. A young stout boy in cast net range ought to be able to tackle that booger.

We have a dart gun which has made our pasture treating, so much easier.
You may have a neighbor with one.

I need to video my wife and son trying to catch this calf. She's getting really smart after my son tried to jump on her from the golf cart as I was chasing her. This is our smallest calf ever but we've treated her for naval ill - infection 3 different times now and she's not wanting to play the game any more. Very healthy acting calf but a knot is starting to show backup after 2 weeks without one. I think when the knot goes down this time the pair is heading to stockyard.

Build a calf hook , I damn well you have a 10' stick of conduit under the barn if Vincent can get that close you should be able to hook it's leg

I'm through dealing with her she's going to make it or die. The cows are going into the woods tomorrow whether she gets treated or not. We've only had 5/10ths since we cut hay and are out of grass.....again.
