I lost my mineral feeder in Hurricane and since then I've just been pouring the minerals in a bunk.now that the rains have started more frequently I need to build another one with a roof. I have duns barrel plan but would like to see wood ones and maybe something catch's my eye on one of yours.

I have 2 different styles I use.
One is like duns barrel, only it is sitting in a semi tire and not hanging. It has 80lbs of concrete in the bottom with a chain set in the concrete and coming out near the bottom so you can drag it from pasture to pasture.
The other is wooden frame with a barrel half under cover at the pens. I will try to get pics this afternoon if interested.

Something like this... Except post are at the end and ends are covered with tin. Mine don’t have the runners. Going on 10-12 years. Starting to make minor repairs. Renailing because nails rusting off. Hag a leg break off. Scabbed a 2x4 and 2x6 on to fix that.

I have 4 wooden ones similar to what's pictured. Although my is not made out of new lumber and tin. Anyway, I built them about the same roof height but a lower bunk height. Should have lowered the opening. Rain does blow in and calves stay up in them.

We had some built a few year ago that are similar to that but probably the roof is taller and the trough itself is square. I think the rain does get in ours some, and because of the height of the trough a very small calf has trouble reaching. By the time they are a few months old though they can reach it. I like those wood ones much better than the store bought metal and plastic ones, they just don't hold up at all.

We use the tire & barrell like 3LT does only there is no concrete in the bottom of ours. This is actually smaller than a semi-tire (I want to say 20"). I can't remember how big the barrel is. They will sometimes tip them over if they are empty but doesn't seem to hurt anything. You'll have to excuse the shaggy looking cows - picture isn't very recent, they are all slick and shiny now.

My barrel deal is just like creekdrives only bigger. 55 gallon drum in a semi tire. Never had them turn it over, pulls(drags) good behind the truck. Stays relatively dry. This one is made of a couple 4x4s and some 2x4s with a barrel half. This is one I keep at the pens under a lean to.

I use 265 gallon totes. Cut a hole in the side and it’s ready. Can move them easy with a double hay spear or a pallet fork. I’ll try and get a picture tomorrow.

I bought a half dozen of the green ones that go inside a semi tire. Thus far happy with them and they are sure a lot easier to move than the old rogator tires we used.

Only issue id have with that, is my cows showing me how fast they can make kindling out of it..

I bought one of those with the rubber flap on top. Bolted to a front tractor tire, got a chain on it where i can drag it with the mule/ That's what I use. My problem is racoons somehow figuring out how to remove the clamps - because I know my cows don't have opposable thumbs. When I need to move them I just wait until they're almost empty & put 'em in the back of my Polaris - can't drag them that far & in my rocky terrain.
