Just curious how folks use them. A friend was using a 5.56 for predators but has gone to a short barrel 300 blackout for more knockdown.

In my opinion the ar was made for fighting not hunting. I have rifles in virtually every traditional hunting and military caliber made.ive bought two many, inherited to many and never sold a damn one lol. The 223 has become one of my favorite whitetail rounds. But in a little short handy rifle. I don't have a 300 blackout but I have a half dozen 30-30 s which is almost a ballistic twin. A 223 will consistently lay a down a deer or hog with less of a run than the 30-30. For that matter so will a 22mag. Although they all end up about the same amount of dead.

I don't own one never had the urge to buy one. I like the way they shoot but for hunting I want a BAH . 30.06 . I'm sure one day I will want something that kicks a little less. But for now I don't.

Back when I was running a long line trapping coyotes I had a mini 14. But it is not legal to hunt deer with a 223 in Washington. I traded it off for a 243 when my boys started hunting. I never felt the need for that kind of magazine capacity to shoot something. For a lot of years I just hunted with a 30-06. Ended up going bigger for elk, 300 Win Mag. And smaller for deer, 7x57. All three of those are the old top tag safety Ruger 77. My coyote rifle is a 22-250.

That's my choice for a pig gun. Own both 223 and 300 blk. Building a short barrel 300 blk to host a suppressor for my go to pig gun.

I am sure that you can buy a 5 round magazine but I have never seen an AR with one.

10 rounders with a limiter in them to make them 5. It's been done a lot.

A max magazine capacity of 5 for hunting. Get caught with a magazine with higher capacity, and good luck. Kind of like shotguns and hunting

Three rounds in a shotgun for birds but rifles..... how many can you stuff in it.

Nope, never wanted one. Bolt actions shoot better, are cheaper, and come in what ever load and config you can dream of. Why would you want anything else?

Anti gun people don't want you to have one you should have at least two. My wife has killed a crap load of hogs with one. Lots of deer killed with them around here.

I'm glad you don't. A bolt action is fine for one target, 20-30 pigs in the pasture, not so much. As far as accuracy is concerned, the normal man won't see a difference enough to matter 99% of the time. There is no comparison in the ability to configure a bolt gun the way one can an AR. Not even close. Why would anyone want anything else? Because you can, this is America...lol You sound a little like Joe Biden when he says all you need is a shotgun.

I have not bought any ammo for the ar in a while. 200 to 250 dollars a thousand rounds is way cheaper than most any other ammo.
