You're doing great! Hang in there and just think about the alternative to mud is a drought.....but at some point mud just gets the better of us all, I know. So my BFF had a cow lose her calf in the creek and she came over and loaded up my bottle calf to graft on. Win-win situation!! Yeah, we had 3 years of drought and never want to deal w/that again. And yet they're predicting another 1.38". Wine, party of one.

And yet they're predicting another 1.38". Wine, party of one. Quality milk replacer gets expensive, and gets to be a PITA. That's a better solution. That much rain would really suck right now. The wind just keeps blowing hard enough that the new ones have to come in. I've been checking them often at night and most of the day, so the boys can finish up some other projects before things get too busy. It was somehow easier to do without much sleep in years past. They backed off our "heavy snow" prediction a bit.

The "like" click was just for the picture. I totally sympathize with what you're dealing with. Success don't come easy.

We too are getting more as I type this. What looks so promising is that the sun is showing to shine for three days this week. But often they will say that and then wake up to it raining or the sky looking like it is going to bust. I am expecting all of our trees to have a huge burst of growth this spring. I can see about 5" so far before the buds start popping open.
Funny how I can drive the tractor to the barn, and there is a definite hardness under the mud from 6 to 8" at the peak of the hill. Our barn is on the highest point of the property, and the pastures are low. But the cattle just continuously stand around the barn churning the mud up.
It is nice to be able to walk in the tracks of the tractor for a few days before the cattle cause the tracks to cave in.
I slept later than usual this morning because it was so dark outside. I should have been up 2 hours ago.

The 12th is the starting date for the majority of our cows. ~10 inches of snow and wind, and single digit lows for the next couple of nights is pretty par for the course. Got stuck turning into my drive this morning and had to walk in. Keep thinking someday I'll be too old for this shit. how to find petrol stations on google maps

Angusrancher, that is such a cold picture. I would enjoy going to bed the night before, but when I opened my eyes, I would be wishing it was time to go back to bed again. That is just too cold. When I was younger, I could handle the cold so easy. But now that I am older, I dread going out in it. So often I overdress to keep the temp away. With it being 1* outside and the wind blowing, there is almost no way of keeping that cold from creeping into your clothes. Wearing something around my neck helps. Seems like the caps they make now are not warm enough to keep the wind off your ears. Often I wear a set of ear muffs and put a cap on over that.
Once I get out in it, and start moving around, I stay warm. As soon as I walk in the house, the heat is more than I can bear and cannot get my clothes shucked off fast enough.
I do hope you get spring weather quickly. When does it start warming up there? It is almost like you live in a different country.

It's 2 degrees now, so I guess it's warmed up. lol There are usually some bad storms in March, but this year it was pretty mild. Often times we get one more winter blast around Easter. By Friday it looks like it's going to be pretty nice.

Got to help grandson with his "shark" kite the other day. Didn't get all of the hay hauled in last fall, and then things got muddy. They're playing a little catch-up when time allows. Early this morning, this 3 year old calved, with the tell-tale sign of the dirty face. She was pushing her calf around some, I've seen worse, but she was kind of aggressive. I locked her up in a small lot that has a windbreak and a raised panel for calves to get behind, where I put her calf. All seemed okay. Later on, the calf walked part way across the lot, and she must have lost her marbles and killed him, broke both his back legs. Now her mission in life will be to help feed the hungry, and probably make money for the other sectors of our industry.
