That’s a nice one Kenny, was he treed or were the dogs walking him. That’s a nice skinning shed. Glad to see some kids in the pictures I hope y’all have some young blood coming. First time in years I didn’t see one the first week. We treed a few cubs or sows with them but nothing that was harvestable. None of them treed close to where I was. We will try it again next week. Bayed up against highwall , tried to make it up a tree got lead in him instead. We rarely get one up a tree if he is big. That made 9 treed the first week. 2 killed. |

Those big ones are hard to get to go up. A treed one is a lot of fun but a big one on the ground bayed or walking with the dogs is a thrill. You got get in close on the action and things are usually happening fast. That last 15’ really separates out the bear hunters. That’s the kind of chase you need to get Grit in on. When is he coming up? I am curious to see how much he likes it. Sounds like y’all had a great week, I hope it keeps going.

He keeps finding excuses not to come. I believe he is afraid above 2000 ft.

He’s from Georgia so blizzard conditions is a heavy frost to us. He’s probably like the rest of us and ashamed to be in the state of Virginia right now.
I finally got eyes on one today. Probably weighed all of 50 lbs. but it was a bear in a tree at least. Really only the 4th. day I have been out between the weather and work. Normally hunt 4 days a week. Think a lot have laid up, at least for a few weeks. Hope they come back out before the end. We will try again tomorrow. Y’all still keeping them running Kenny?

Until Monday they have treed 1-2 every day. Best day was 4. Always have to catch the dogs after dark. Poured rain Monday and Tuesday so I don't think anyone hunted. Haven't gotten any report today yet.

Well I am on a roll now, 2 days in a row seeing one. This one was a little bigger maybe 130#. Ironically I had climbed up a tree watching for the dogs on a ridge opposite me and heard a rustle in the leaves, look down and the bear comes out of the laurels just up from me. Supposed to be the other way around, him treed and me on the ground. Only a week and a half left after Christmas, Grit better be on the ball.

Friday the dogs were running one and it started down the mountain which at that point is about 3 miles. There was a young man and his wife near the bottom. They radioed to them that the bear was coming. A small (125) lb bear came running and the wife shot it. Ended up it wasn't the same bear the dogs were running. But she was happy so all was good.

Yeah this was a similar deal, dogs were working a different track and just got this one up. He never knew I was there, but it was funny.

I'm planning on coming up after Christmas and hunting through Saturday. I'm not sure if I'm going to bring a gun though, I'd hate to get it confiscated.
