10 seen, 4 treed, one killed today. Pretty decent day. Treed a sow and 3 cubs, run a sow with 2 cubs, caught the dogs, run 2 that were too small, caught the dogs, one guy just shot one weighed about 250 just before dark instead of putting the dogs on it.

That’s a good week Kenny considering you lost a couple days to weather. We killed 3 and treed a couple others. The one I sent the picture of was 383 lbs. on the scale. My cousin from MO had never been so came out to hunt for the week and now he owes the taxidermist $2k. Seems to be plenty around everywhere so I am glad of that.

Steve, that was just yesterday not for the week. Yesterday was pretty good

Dogs struck and acted like it was a hot track today. Turned 5 dogs loose and had a heck of a race. One guy got ahead of them and they were running a 5X5 bull Elk. He caught 4 of the dogs but the 5th one kept going. An hour or so later it showed him treed. 3 of the hunting party walked in to him. He had the Elk bayed on an old mining highwall. He broke and ran when they got close. He bayed it 2 more times before we caught the dog.

Oh and just before dark we treed a bear probably 350# plus. When a 10 year old girl shot him he came out and started fighting the dogs. He bit one dog through the front leg crushing the bone. Vet is working on it now.

An elk chase would be a sight to see and that is one we don’t run in to. Do you have a lot of elk on your lease? I ended up having to take care of one the other day in a hole. I was catching dogs and he came out at my feet. How he didn’t tear up some dogs where he was at I don’t know but we were lucky. 275# but he was lean everything else this year has been tick fat. He would have been over 300 with a little fat on him. Hope the dog pulls thru ok. Never good when they hit the ground hurt.

We really don't know how many elk are there because we almost never see them. Maybe a dozen. I been telling everyone that we have Elk dogs for sale. Only problem is the county where we hunt is closed to Elk hunting. A couple of the guys said they bayed an Elk 5 times one day last week. The dogs are crazy about the smell

We have that problem with coyotes. Just can’t seem to break dogs off of them like you can with other trash. At least yours is a lot better eating. That was the first question the guys asked was did they kill the elk.

All over with but the crying! Will have to try and get back to the swing of things this week. We had a good year with some good chases. No monsters but got a couple of really nice bears. Hunted everyday they went but 2 so I got some good time in the woods.
How did y’all finish out the year? Hope you had a lot of fun and a little bit of luck. Any more elk get bayed?

Think there was 12 killed, probably 30 treed and as always I never fired a shot. 2 dogs hurt bad but both will recover. But enjoy it every year. No more elk seen.
